Federal safety officials have escalated their investigation into more than 1.2 million Ford pickups after complaints about sudden transmission downshifts more than doubled, officials said. The probe into about 1,270,970 Ford F-150 trucks expanded on Friday, Jan. 30, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The agency first opened a preliminary investigation into the pickup's issues back in March 2025. A truck driver was injured following a crash on Route 78 in Somerset County on Saturday, Dec. 13, authorities said. At 10:23 a.m., a crash occurred between a Toyota sedan and a Freightliner tractor trailer in Bernards Township, Christopher Postorino, a spokesman for the New Jersey State police said. The crash caused the tractor trailer to veer off the road left and strike a guardrail, Postorino said.
